SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Much of San Diego County will remain dry Monday, even as Los Angeles and Orange counties face a second round of rain in recent weeks, high wind warnings and flash flood watches,’ and Northern and Central California take another hit.
The National Weather Service estimates that most of the county will receive less than an inch of rain on Monday, except for Palomar Mountain, which could get up to 2.5 inches.
Severe weather is expected in East County, with wind gusts above 65 mph in places like Borrego Springs, Mt. Laguna and Jacumba Hot Springs, with light winds of 25 mph across San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon and Escondido.
Although the Northern and Central California coasts will experience a strong winter storm, some rain is likely to hit San Diego County late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, according to the NWS.
The Clement Weather Shelter Program for San Diegans experiencing homelessness is implemented by the San Diego Housing Commission.
“A strong storm is producing heavy rain across the CA coast today; rain will spread farther south tonight-Thursday.,” the NWS’ San Diego office posted Monday.
A series of severe storms is expected to pass through Northern California this week. A storm surge hit Northern California last week, causing flooding, power outages and heavy snow in mountainous areas.
President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for California on Sunday and authorized the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate relief efforts and provide emergency supplies, the White House said in a statement.
“We expect to see the worst still ahead of us,” Gov. Gavin Newsom told the Los Angeles Times Sunday. “We are expecting very severe weather on [Monday] and Tuesday morning.”
In the San Diego area, temperatures will stay cool all week, with highs in the low 60s. Overnight lows will mostly be in the 50s.
Some sunny skies will return Wednesday and Thursday, but more rain is possible next week, possibly as early as Friday night, according to the NWS.
