SAN DIEGO – Many San Diegans took to social media Tuesday night to ask about the loud bangs they felt and heard from Kearny Mesa to Mission Valley.
San Diego police confirmed to FOX 5 that the military was conducting a pre-planned training exercise.
On Jan. 27, Camp Pendleton tweeted that it expects a noise advisory for nighttime fire drills from Jan. 28 to Feb. 5.
“@1st_Marine_Div will conduct continuous fire operations with audible high explosive munitions at any time of the day or night,” the military base said.
Social media also saw various reactions to the loud noises.
“I don’t know what that was. I shook the whole house on the Pacific beach. I thought we were being bombed or there was going to be a plane crash. He saw what looked like planes flying low and in formation,” said Twitter user Cory Zack.
A tweet from Twitter user Quinton Tarantino said: “Anyone in San Diego hearing explosion type sounds? Heard it on Kearny Mesa and down to Mission Valley.
Another person said he saw helicopters and police sirens.
“What’s with all the helicopters and police sirens I hear?! I live on Serra Mesa facing West toward Linda Vista and I see the helicopters and hear the police!”
