Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton has been outspoken about the homeless problem in San Diego, and on Saturday he co-wrote an op-ed calling for the city to be moved.
Walton had a short story in the Times of San Diego with George Mullen. The article provides complaints about how the problem of homelessness has affected the residents of the city and describes the Sun Garden as the saving grace of the issue of the city.
“Most of us can’t walk or bike down downtown streets, sidewalks, and parks without encountering a barrage of tents, corpses, human feces, needles, garbage, and dead-zombies. indistinguishable from these mere luck and other uncontrollable drug abusers who attack us,” Walton and Mullen wrote.

The proposed Sunbreak Ranch site is located on vacant land east of Interstate 15 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, according to the article. The proposal includes 2,000 acres of open land with toilets, portable showers and medical tents. Those who decide to come will live in community tents or can camp in their protected area.
The article says Mullen needs three steps to help launch the plan.
“We need our President and the federal government to lease 2,000 acres of land at MCAS Miramar for a Solar Park for $1 a year, and to designate this land as a temporary federal homeless relief zone.
“We need our president to deploy the military and security forces to build a tent city for the Sunbreak Ranch at this location with additional equipment from Afghanistan and Iraq. The entire tent city within weeks.
“The cost of this Sunbreak trial is minuscule compared to the tens of billions of dollars currently spent on homelessness each year.”

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Walton has previously criticized the mayor for the crisis. In September, he emailed Gloria about being attacked by homeless people while riding his bike.
“You have failed us and yourself,” Walton’s email to Gloria read, according to the Voice of San Diego.
“Once again, while peacefully riding my bike early Sunday morning in Balboa Park, I was threatened, chased, and attacked by homeless people in our park,” August wrote.
He also wrote about this in mid-September on Instagram.

“Sadly, and with a broken heart, I can no longer say that my city, San Diego, is the greatest place in the world,” Walton wrote on September 19. “I can no longer say that SD is safe, healthy, clean, and a beautiful place. More. I can no longer encourage my family, friends, tourists, and businesses to come to SD to live, work, and play.”
Gloria touched on the issue of homelessness on Thursday.
“It’s not good for kids to walk across the street to go to camp,” he told Patch.

Gloria said he was planning to go to work to end the problem. He vowed to open more homes, clear fences along city streets and limit evictions, among other things.
