SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – “This is my Superbowl,” said Danny Ayer, a small cab driver.
It’s a big night for everyone in the Gaslamp Quarter. Petty taxi drivers say they expect people to be driving until 6am.
“I don’t know where they’re coming from, like hotel rooms and stuff, but people are on the streets until 4:30 in the morning,” Ayer said.
A long night does not discourage people from starting early.
“We’ve been here since 1 p.m.,” said Karen Murphy, a New Year’s Eve partygoer. “You have to be Irish and have good training to get through the day.”
It may be liquid courage, but partygoers say nothing can rain on their parade.
“The rain can’t stop us,” said Manny and Raj Singh, New Year’s visitors. “Rain is just water that falls from the sky.”
“We’re going to dance in the rain,” said Sage Hicks, a New Year’s Eve partygoer. “What could be better than that? Dancing with your best friends.”
So no matter how bad your year was, with the New Year comes a fresh start.
“It was horrible,” Manny Singh said. “The stock market was shit, I don’t know about Biden, I don’t know what he’s doing.”
“I think new beginnings — what do you think? Yes,” said Becky Rhone-Nowlan, a new party member.
